Trailer Watch: 2-Hour Single-Take German Heist Film "Victoria"
One City, One Night, One Take
" Victoria rocked my world", says Darren Aronofsky, America's most indie blockbuster creator. For a director whose films are persistently style over substance, that's praise not to be taken too lightly. The synopsis given by the film's IMDB page summarises the film's plot:
"A movie shot in a single take about Victoria, a runaway party girl, who's asked by three friendly men to join them as they hit the town. Their wild night of partying turns into a bank robbery."
The film looks to be an impressive feat, using the single-take handheld format for action sequences rather than Birdman's backstage actor drama. It will be interesting to see how much the cinematography will potentially add, or detract, from creating interesting characters and a tense plot using this format.
To see what I think about the handheld aesthetic in contemporary cinema, come back tomorrow!
